Abdulkadir Hamidu Alkali was born in Yola, Adamawa State in 1977. He started his early education at Musdafa Primary School, Yola in 1983 and completed his primary school education at the University of Maiduguri Staff School in 1989. He started Yelwa Government Secondary School, Yola (now Aliyu Musdafa College), in 1990 and graduated from Federal Government College, Sokoto in 1995. He holds a B.Eng. in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Nigeria, in 2003, M.Sc. in Computer and Network Engineering, Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield, United Kingdom in 2010 and Ph.D. in Computing & Electronics Engineering, Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield, United Kingdom in 2015. He won the maiden prize of the Engineering Research Prize at Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield in November 2014, which is awarded for “undertaking challenging and progressive research or project which has had significant impact on societyâ€. He was also won the Finalist – Biomedical award at the NI Engineering Impact Award 2014, by National Instruments UK & Ireland, in London, November 2014, which is awarded to “honour engineers and scientist who, using graphical system design are addressing some of the most challenging engineering problems and improving the world around usâ€. He won an IMAGINE Connectivity for multidisciplinary research grant at Sheffield Hallam University for Thermal imaging developments for wrist fracture screening in children, in January 2014.His research interests include thermal imaging, projectiles, surveillance and sensors. He served as the Head of Department of the Department of Computer Engineering from November 2016 to March 2021 and an Associate Professor in Computing and Electronics with the Department of Computer Engineering of the University. He is a Registered Engineer, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, and a member of various professional bodies including the Nigeria Society of Engineers, NSE, Nigeria Computer Society, NCS, Institute of Electrical Electronics Engineers, IEEE, The Institution of Engineering & Technology, IET and the European Energy Centre, EEC. Alkali enjoys rearing animals and plays badminton. He hails from Yola, Adamawa State and is happily married with children.
