(Office of the Registrar)

Ref: ADM.28/Vol.III                                                           11th December 2011

To:  All Staff and Students

NON-PARTICIPATION IN THE ON-GOING NATIONAL STRIKE DECLARED BY ASUU

The attention of Management has been drawn to text messages allegedly written by the University of Maiduguri Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) calling on their members to disregard the circular earlier issued by Management on the non participation of University of Maiduguri in the on-going strike declared by ASUU.

The Committee of Provost, Deans and Directors met again today Sunday 11th December 2011 and considered reports from the delegation that conveyed our position to the National leadership of ASUU and reports from the College and Faculties and reiterated that in view of the two months already lost in the 2010/2011 academic session following the suspension of studies due to the security situation in Maiduguri, academic activities should continue in the University of Maiduguri.

All students are therefore enjoined to remain calm and continue with their academic activities as lectures will take place and the laboratories, libraries and workshops will be opened for the use of students.  Deans and Heads of Department have agreed to avail themselves to students.

Meanwhile, the Management is appealing to the University of Maiduguri Chapter of ASUU to cooperate with Management in its efforts to continue with academic activities in the University in the interest of our students and parents alike as they have suffered untold hardship due to the prolonged 2010/2011 session.

Management wishes to express its appreciation over the way our dear students are conducting themselves during this trying period.

Thank you
