Welcome To History

The Department of History has its roots in the North-East College of Arts and Science (NECAS), which University of Maiduguri inherited when it was established in 1975. The University provided the Department the opportunity to start a B. A. (Hons.) degree in History. The Department was initially called African Civilization and World History, which was later changed to History Department. To date, the Department has produced several thousand graduates who have gone a long way to provide the country with much needed manpower in various fields of endeavors, such as the civil service and particularly in education. In recent years, the department has not only increased its Academic Graduate Programmes in Masters’ and Ph.D. with varied fields of specialization, but also, in 2000 and 2010, introduced Postgraduate Diploma and Master of Arts in Strategic Studies, respectively. The Department is administered by a Head of department who is elected by the departmental board and appointment letter issued by the Vice-Chancellor. The Department presently has over 25 Academic Staff, 20 Administrative Staff.

Rebecca Mtaku Gali PhD
I am a Medical Laboratory Scientist and a Professor in Chemical Pathology. I am a lecturer and a researcher in Implementation Science University of Maiduguri. Producing accurate results that help in timely intervention and improve patient care, is my goal when I work on bench as a Laboratory Scientist. Discoveries during research, screenings and relating to those concern to find help or solution is the great fulfilment in life for me.
